Project background
Coal coking is an important chemical process in the metallurgical industry. The main processing method is high-temperature coking to extract useful chemical products and recover combustible gas. Coke oven gas, coal tar, benzene, toluene, xylene, naphthalene, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, carbon disulfide, and so on can be obtained from chemical products produced in the cooking process through recovery, treatment, and processing. These products are important raw materials for the chemical industry and pharmaceutical industry.
In recent years, occupational benzene poisoning accidents in China mostly occur in shoe-making, luggage, toys, electronics, printing, furniture, and other industries, which are mostly caused by benzene-containing adhesives, thinner, hardening water, detergent, boiling water, paint, and so on. Benzene is a colorless, transparent, aromatic, and volatile toxic liquid. It is the product of coal tar distillation or petroleum cracking. It can volatilize and form benzene vapor at room temperature. The higher the temperature is, the greater the amount of volatilization is.
Dangerous gas
Benzene mainly enters the human body in the form of vapor through the respiratory tract. Short-term inhalation of high concentration benzene vapor and long-term inhalation of low concentration benzene vapor can cause physical damage to workers. Acute mild poisoning can be caused by a large amount of inhalation in a short period of time, which is characterized by headache, dizziness, cough, chest tightness, excitement, and faltering gait. At this time, if you continue to inhale, it can develop into severe acute poisoning. The patient’s consciousness is fuzzy, blood pressure drops, muscle tremor, shallow and fast breathing, and pulse is fast and weak. Rescue in time, after a few hours or a few days, can restore health, but severe cases can also die of respiratory central paralysis.
